Whether it’s guiding participants on a walk through local wildlife habitats or leading discussions on conservation, Root and Wing is committed to making nature accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful for everyone.

About Me

George Smith

Hi, I’m George, the founder of Root and Wing. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up surrounded by nature and by people who’ve taught me how to appreciate it. My passion for wildlife truly began during my time volunteering, and later working, for the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. I’ve been fortunate to be involved in amazing projects like the Rutland Osprey Project, where I’ve worked as Information Officer for the past three years.

During this time, my fascination with nature has grown immensely. While it started with an interest in ornithology, it’s now expanded to include a deeper curiosity about the entire ecosystem and the intricate connections that make everything possible. I’ve had some incredible opportunities along the way, such as ringing the Manton Bay osprey chick (as pictured), which has deepened my appreciation for the wildlife around us.

I believe that everyone should have the chance to see just how incredible the natural world is, and through Root and Wing, I hope to spark that interest in others and inspire them to explore the beauty of the nature around them
